FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

FR clothing is workwear made to self-extinguish when the flame source is removed. Regular cotton or poly-cotton shirts can keep burning, and polyester can melt onto skin. Welders, electricians, linemen, oil and gas crews, and refinery workers commonly wear it.

NFPA 2112 covers flash fire protection. NFPA 70E covers arc flash (electrical) safety. HRC is a Hazard Risk Category from 0 to 4, and higher numbers mean more protection. Check which rating your job site needs before you buy.

Forge FR sells men's and women's FR shirts (snap, button, vent, plaid), tees, Henleys, jeans, pants, bib overalls, coveralls, hoodies, jackets, and vests. It also has hi-vis wear and rainwear. The full range is 324 products.

Prices start around $57 for tees and $72 for FR shirts. FR jeans are about $97, hoodies about $147, and jackets from about $206. The highest-priced item on this page is $472.50.

Yes. Regular workwear can ignite. FR fabric is either inherently flame resistant or treated to resist flames. Both types are made to self-extinguish. Check each product page for the fabric type and rating.

Wash FR clothing separately from regular clothes, and check the care label first. Fabric softeners, starch, and some dryer sheets contain flammable particles, so avoid them. Bleach can also damage FR fabric.

With proper care, FR protection does not wash out. Flame resistance in inherent fabrics is part of the fibre, and treated fabrics usually come with a lifetime guarantee from the maker. The garment can still wear out physically, so replace it if it is torn, thin, or heavily soiled with fuel or oil.
