Bib Overall

All arc-rated clothing is flame resistant, but not all FR clothing is arc rated. FR clothing resists ignition and self-extinguishes, while AR clothing also carries a tested arc rating (in cal/cm²) for electrical arc flash. Flash-fire hazards call for NFPA 2112, and electrical hazards call for NFPA 70E-rated gear.

Insulated FR bibs use a quilted FR lining to hold body heat in cold and windy conditions, while unlined bibs suit mild weather or layering. Bibs should be worn over FR layers (FR shirt, FR pants or FR base layer), because non-FR clothing underneath can melt or burn and cancel out the protection. Also choose a size that fits comfortably over your layers, since too tight a fit reduces mobility and insulation.

Wash them per the care label, separately from non-FR items, and avoid bleach and fabric softeners, which can reduce FR performance.
